2:06 pm - 2009 Movies!
#53: Moon
Damn, this was good. About damn time we get a good hard sci-fi movie without any supernatural or magical bullshit (I'm looking at you, Sunshine!)

#53: Bruno
Awesome. A great skewering of homophobic assholes and the cult of celebrity.

10:10 pm - 2009 Movies!
#49: Masters of the Universe
This was pretty awesome. I had thought it was going to be a live MST3King of this awful movie, but Tim Uren and Joe Scrimshaw did an excellent job of making it different enough to not be a weak version of the show we grew up with.

#50: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
After the shitty emotional roller coaster of the weekend, I really wanted to watch this, rather than go to closing ceremony. I popped out at 5 to check out the closing ceremony video, but then headed back downstairs to see the end.

#51: The Apple
Dead Dog Party movie. Wow. Crazy, fucked up tail-end-of-70s hippie message movie. Ridiculous, but fun to watch with a group that was as weirded out as we were.

#52: Public Enemies
It's okay. I was really hoping for something a bit more epic or a bit more personal, but it was square in the middle. It was neat to hear the Saint Paul references (about Otto Bremer and William Hamm), and the street they filmed on for the Sioux Falls scenes looks just like downtown Sioux Falls.

6:46 pm - ...and she's gone.
Funeral Wednesday. Amy and I are going up to Menahga Tuesday after work. I've never been a pallbearer before.

12:44 pm - At CONvergence.
My grandmother is going to die tomorrow, and there's nothing I can really do.

My mom's with her up in Park Rapids.

At least she made it to see my parents' 40th wedding anniversary a couple weeks ago. She had fun, and I got to talk to her and my grandfather.

And so it goes.

9:03 am - Oh, look - my CONvergence schedule!
This is stuff that I'm probably going to attend. I'm only on three panels, but I'm hosting the Black Light Fashion Show (Thursday, 10:30pm, Connie's Space Lounge), Match Game (Saturday, Masquerade Halftime [around 7:45-8:00], Mainstage), and the Non-Silent Auction (Sunday, 10:00am, Silent Auction Space).

9:06 am - ECDX
Well, I'm back from the weekend at ECDX (East Coast Derby Extravaganza). Friday (into the wee hours of Saturday) was hellish, but the rest of the weekend was awesome.

I'll explain later. Now to work for two days, then CONvergence.

8:38 am - Love this town!
So the Director's Cut of Watchmen is released on DVD July 21, but the weekend prior (Fri-Sun, July 17-19) it will have a short theatrical release in four cities: New York, LA, Dallas...and Minneapolis-St. Paul!

#48: Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Okay, not as funny as when I originally saw it, but that could be due to years of people quoting it.

#47: Dirty Work

No, not all that great, but funny. Kind of like a 75-minute Norm MacDonald stand-up routine with skits.

#45: Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Remarkably funny and sweet, although I'm pretty sure I'm done seeing Jason Segal's dick.

#44: The Sum of Us

Cute 1995 Australian movie starring Russell Crowe as a gay plumber looking for love, and Jack Thompson (this Jack Thompson, not this Jack Thompson) as his dad. Very funny, very sweet. I saw it at the Uptown when I still worked there.

#42: Moonraker
Not the worst Bond movie, but certainly the most ridiculous. Yes, even more so than the stealth car and the ice hotel in Die Another Day. Dumb fun.

#43: Up
We saw the first half of this back in December at BNAT, and the second half was just as great.

10:02 pm - Vice Guide to Travel: North Korea
Shane Smith from Vice goes inside North Korea. Here's the first part, there are 14 in all, each about 3-6 minutes, total running time of about an hour.
