7:24 pm - The best $350 I ever spent...
|
Well, because of "major structural problems", we're not buying the house.
1) Crap
2) Glad we got a good tough inspector
3) Crap again
The infuriating part of this whole deal (as a history buff and lover of beautiful old houses like this one), is that it could have been avoided with about $200 of gutters. Now, if they can't find someone to spend about $100,000 in repairs, they'll probably have to tear it down.
Well.
To CONvergence tomorrow, then we'll start looking again next week.

7:51 am - LAST MINUTE HELP!
|
Hey, folks -- anyone who's going to CONvergence and can help me out would be appreciated!
I'm hosting Match Game on Thursday night at 11:30pm. My friend who was going to be my scorekeeper is not able to be at the con, and I need someone to help out!
It's pretty easy, it just requires a little bit of counting, and selecting contestants to play.
If anyone can be of assistance, please contact me ASAP!

I don't know why I let lunatics get to me. I'll done in a month and a half, and then I just don't give a shit.
DEEP BREATH.
Okay, so remember this post? I may have spoken too soon.
So the woman who owns the house we have an offer on had two mortgages. One mortgage company approved our offer, and the other was apparently ready to, but has just been dragging their feet. Last week, we told our realtor that we were thinking of walking away, she called the listing agent who said they were finishing paperwork and we could have the inspection this Monday or Tuesday, and they wanted to close the second week of July. Perfect! We can close the week after CONvergence, then move in before August.
Well, here it is Tuesday and we're not inspecting the house! I talked to sithlet, and we decided to tell our realtor that if the offer isn't accepted by the end of the week, we're going to walk. We got together a list of houses to look at this weekend, and if it's not done by 5 on Friday, we'll be looking at new places at 9am on Saturday.
I don't want to, because I love this house. On Sunday, I rode my bike over there, sat on the front steps, and read the community newspaper. It was quiet, a peaceful neighborhood, and I just WANT it. I want to live there. I love nearly everything about the place.
This has been really trying. I'm gaining weight, I'm snapping at people, I'm letting little things get to me.
I just want it to be done.

11:08 pm - So how about them politics, eh?
|
Today I officially announced my decision to resign from the CONvergence Board of Directors*, effective following the upcoming convention. This was going to be my last term anyway (going through the 2009 convention), but I have become much busier with work, roller derby, buying a house, etc., and do not have the time to devote to the organization that the organization deserves.
It was a hard decision, as I am one of only five left of the original people who sat down at that Perkins on Highway 100 in 1998 and decided to run a little convention that grew crazy fast and became something to be proud of. It's not 100% what I envisioned when we began it, nor is it perfect, but in my not-so-humble opinion, it's closer than any other con out there.
So what happens now? Well, there have been two times where Board members have left in the middle of their terms. It's now up to those who remain to appoint someone to serve the rest of my term. Hopefully, it will be someone who is interested in running in January for a two-year term. If you're interested (and are already a voting member of the Society), get in touch with me and I'll let you know how it all works.
Thanks to those of you who I have talked to about this over the past few weeks. For your honest opinions, your advice, and your confidence.
* It's not really called "The Board of Directors" anymore, but that's what most people refer to it as, and the easiest way to explain to outsiders what it is. Clarity, boss.

11:37 am - Sandler the super-hero?
|
Yesterday morning we saw Don't Mess with the Zohan, which was absolutely great. A comedic super-hero movie (without really being a super-hero movie) that boiled down the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to three lines of dialogue.
We spent yesterday packing and nearly ran out of boxes. I'll have to swing by DreamHaven or Big Brain to get some comic boxes.
Then in the evening, we watched the greatest Sandler movie of all time, P.T. Anderson's Punch-Drunk Love.

Happy fiftieth birthday to Prince! Our favorite hometown midget made good!
---
This morning, I hit the MindWare "warehouse" sale at their office (not the actual warehouse) in Roseville. They're an educational toy and game catalog company. They have quite a few interesting items, including building toys, books, a few science toys, cha cha cha. It goes until 3pm today, check it out!
2100 W. County Road C in Roseville (between Cleveland and Long Lake Blvd, just off 35W).

11:57 am - Dipshit SMASH!
|
So sometime last night, some asshole smashed the passenger side window of my van. Didn't steal anything, just did it to be a dick, it seems. That's what pisses me off most of all -- if they had done it to steal something, if they had a reason for doing so, I could understand. It wouldn't make it right, of course, I would still want them drawn and quartered, but at least it would make a little more sense than just smashing it to be destructive.
Luckily, I have full glass coverage, and American Family took care of me quickly and easily. If anyone is looking for insurance, I can highly recommend my agent, Wayne Moss, at 612-788-1610.
